Our verdict

Island Adventure is the party option in this catalog. Up to eight people can race on one PC, and the game lets you build your own rule sets, choosing power-ups, race rules and lap counts and saving them for the next session. Vector Unit's product page also mentions individual handicaps, which helps when experienced players race against beginners.

Every part of the game can be played alone or in split-screen: the story-driven Adventure mode on an interactive map, multi-event Championships, single races and Drift Attacks. Solo progression comes from unlocking and upgrading vehicles and collecting trophies, with a choice of difficulty.

There is no online racing. The online element is leaderboard tournaments with set contests, so this is a game for players in the same room. For two players, Steam asks for a compatible gamepad or keyboard plus a second gamepad, so do not plan on two people sharing one keyboard; for larger groups, check that every player has an input device.

Make sure you buy the right product. This is the paid PC game Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure, not the free-to-play mobile Beach Buggy Racing 2, whose purchases and requirements differ. Valve rates it Playable on Steam Deck.

Based on the documented features of the PC version, not a hands-on review or score.

How Wildlap compares

Island Adventure supports eight local players with custom rules. Wildlap also plans local split-screen on PC but has not announced a player limit yet; its focus is drift boosts, items and kart upgrades.

We make Wildlap. It is a PC kart racer in development, without a release date or public demo yet.
