Best Single-Player Kart Racing Games for PC

The best single-player kart racing games for PC give you a reason to enter the next race: a new event to unlock, a challenge to finish or a personal best to beat. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Collection is a strong starting point for a structured career. Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure suits players who want an adventure map and unlocks. SuperTuxKart offers a free route into solo progression.

The choice depends on what you want to work towards. A story campaign, a sequence of cups and a time-trial session can all support solo play, but they create different goals. Internet requirements are another separate question.

This guide compares available Windows games using official store pages, manuals and developer documentation. The recommendations reflect their documented modes and progression systems. We develop Wildlap, which appears separately as a project in development.

Which PC kart racer should you choose for solo play?

Start with the activity you want to return to. Choose a career or adventure if you enjoy opening up new events. Choose cups and time trials if improving your racing is the main reward. Check development status when a campaign is your reason for buying.

The best single-player kart racing games for PC, by play style

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed Collection: for a structured solo career

Racing Transformed gives solo players a clear route through its Career menu. World Tour provides a progression of events, while Grand Prix, Time Attack and Single Race offer other ways to race. The official PC manual explains the modes and how World Tour opens up further chapters and events.

Its defining mechanic is the switch between driving, boating and flying. That makes it worth considering if you want your career to involve different ways of navigating a course. The Windows store page describes the vehicle transformations and available race modes.

Choose it if: you want a sequence of objectives to follow, with time-based competition available alongside the career.

Consider the trade-off: this is an older PC release. Check its requirements against your current setup rather than assuming that its age guarantees compatibility. Its manual also specifies an internet connection for initial installation.

Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure: for an adventure map and unlocks

Island Adventure is a useful pick if you want solo kart racing organised around a journey. Adventure Mode uses an interactive map, and the game lets you play its activities alone. Championships and Drift Attack provide other goals, while custom rules let you adjust how a race works. These features are described on Vector Unit's official Island Adventure page.

Progression includes unlocking and upgrading vehicles, collecting trophies and choosing a suitable difficulty. The PC store page sets out those features.

Choose it if: moving around an adventure map and opening up content sounds more motivating than repeating a championship in isolation.

Check the edition: look for the complete title, Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure. This is the premium PC game. Vector Unit lists the mobile free-to-play Beach Buggy Racing 2 separately, so guides to its purchases or connection requirements may describe a different product.

Team Sonic Racing: for a story campaign with team objectives

Team Sonic Racing's Team Adventure combines a story with races and other events. Its objectives include activities such as Ring Challenges, Daredevil and Survival. Clearing event conditions opens up further progress. The official PC manual also documents Time Trial, vehicle modifications and difficulty settings.

The purchase decision is partly about team racing. Helping a team succeed is a different goal from judging every event only by your own finishing position. Team Adventure can be played solo, and the Steam description presents it as a story experience that introduces the game's systems.

Choose it if: you want story-led events and enjoy a racing format built around cooperation.

Consider the trade-off: the team emphasis may be less appealing if you mainly want individual competition. The game does also offer Standard Race options in Local Play, so its entire mode list is not limited to team scoring.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: for Grand Prix, rivals and time trials

CrossWorlds is a strong candidate if your solo routine is to enter a cup, change your setup and try to improve. SEGA describes Grand Prix as a single-player mode against computer racers. Time Trials provide another target: your performance on an individual course.

Rivals offer bonus rewards, while vehicle parts and gadgets let you adjust your setup. Those systems give you different things to investigate between race attempts. The official PC listing explains the modes and separates the base game from additional paid content.

Choose it if: cups, rival competition and improving lap times matter more to you than following a story campaign.

Try it first: SEGA's official demo notice lists Grand Prix and Time Trial for the PC demo. It gives you a way to try the solo racing before choosing an edition. Check the notice for the current demo's scope and save-transfer details.

SuperTuxKart: for free solo progression

SuperTuxKart offers free solo progression without microtransactions. Story Mode uses racing, time-trial and Grand Prix challenges to unlock tracks. The official FAQ explains its modes and payment model.

Time Trial offers a different focus: racing without power-ups and using saved replays as a reference. That is useful if your motivation changes from opening up more content to improving a familiar route.

Choose it if: you want to try solo kart racing for free and have both progression goals and repeatable practice available.

Download the current game: use the official Windows download. Keep the available release separate from announcements about SuperTuxKart Evolution, which is still in development at the time of checking.

The Karters 2: Turbo Charged: for challenges and practice

The Karters 2 offers a single-player challenge campaign, cups, ghost racing and a replay system. The developer's Steam page documents its available features.

The distinction that matters is current challenges versus future story content. The game remains in Early Access, and its full Story Mode is listed as planned. The existing challenge campaign is something you can evaluate now; a future narrative campaign is not a completed feature to base a purchase on.

Choose it if: you enjoy working on a run, comparing attempts and tackling challenges, and are comfortable with an evolving game.

Check before buying: read the current Early Access description. If a finished story campaign is essential to you, choose according to the content already available.

What makes a kart racer worth playing alone?

A campaign, a cup and a time trial give you different goals

A campaign provides a route through events. A cup groups races into a competition. A challenge adds a particular success condition, while a time trial makes your own time the target. A game can combine these structures, but a single-player label does not tell you which one will occupy most of your attention.

Start by deciding how much direction you want. If you like opening a map and seeing the next objective, put campaign structure first. If you prefer selecting a course and repeating it until a corner feels right, prioritise time trials and ghost features. A story matters most when you want narrative reasons to move between events.

This distinction explains why a large mode list is not automatically the best match. You may get more value from a mode you want to repeat than from several activities you rarely choose.

Unlocking content and improving your driving are different kinds of progress

Unlocks provide visible milestones: another event, vehicle or setup option. Skill progression comes from learning a line, using a boost more effectively or reaching a better time. Consider which kind of progress makes you return to a game.

For content-led progression, read how a campaign opens up events and what its unlocks do. For practice, look for the exact time-trial or replay tools you want to use. A faster personal best can be a satisfying target even when it does not unlock a new item.

We have not measured completion times for this comparison. A campaign's length also depends on difficulty, retries and how much optional content you pursue. Check the activity you are buying for instead of treating an unverified hours estimate as a promise.

Check difficulty and the Windows version before choosing

Difficulty settings tell you what options are available, but they do not establish how fair or demanding the AI will feel to you. This guide does not rank games by AI quality or claim that one is universally the easiest. Use an official demo where available to judge the racing for yourself.

Then check the actual Windows store listing: hardware requirements, controller support and the edition being sold. Keep console feature descriptions and mobile guides separate from the PC purchase. Island Adventure's full name is especially useful here.

If your choice also depends on playing with friends, our guide to games like Mario Kart for PC compares local split-screen, online play and cross-play. Those features answer a different question from what you can work towards alone.

Can you play single-player kart racers offline?

Single-player and offline describe different things. Single-player means you can play without human opponents. Offline means the relevant mode can run without an active network connection. Installation, activation, a launcher or an online feature may still introduce connection requirements.

Steam's official Offline Mode guide explains the preparation needed and warns that games requiring an active connection or an external launcher will not work through that mode.

Before relying on a Steam game during a trip or an outage:

  1. Sign in while connected and finish the game's downloads and updates.
  2. Launch it online to complete any remaining setup, then close it normally.
  3. Follow Valve's instructions for stored login details and switching Steam to Offline Mode.
  4. Test the exact solo mode you intend to use, including starting a race and checking that you can save your progress.

Treat this as a check of your installed game, not a guarantee for every title in the table. Global rankings, online ghosts and cloud features can have different requirements from a local race. If disconnected play is essential, verify it before you lose access to the internet.

Where Wildlap fits for solo players

Wildlap is the PC kart racer we are developing at PolySophia. Its design combines drift boosts, offensive and defensive items, and a garage where earned coins go towards kart upgrades. Different tracks add hazards, shortcuts and magnetic lanes, including the ceiling routes of Abyss Circuit.

For solo players, the appeal is working on your racing while developing a kart setup. You can explore Wildlap's gameplay and garage to see that direction.

Wildlap is still in development. The full game is planned to include single-player racing and local split-screen on PC. A release date has not been announced, and there is currently no public demo download. The games above are options to play now; you can get Wildlap updates to follow our progress.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good free single-player kart racing game for PC?

SuperTuxKart is the free option in this shortlist. It offers solo progression through Story Mode and has no microtransactions. Start with the stable Windows release linked above.

Which PC kart racers have a campaign?
