Our verdict

CrossWorlds is a safe first choice if you want one kart racer that covers every way of playing. Solo players get Grand Prix cups against computer racers, time trials and a Rival system that picks one tougher opponent for each race. On one PC, up to four players can race in split-screen, and Race Park lets teams of two to four play with special rule sets or rules they make themselves. Online, World Match puts you into lobbies of up to 12, and cross-platform multiplayer lets friends on other systems join in.

The defining idea is the Travel Ring. On the second lap the race can warp to a different course with its own challenges before returning for the final lap, where parts of the original track have changed. That keeps a familiar cup from playing out the same way every time, and five vehicle classes give you a reason to try different setups.

Check two things before buying. The Season Pass and the individual content packs, including the crossover characters shown on the store page, are sold separately from the base game, so compare editions first. The minimum PC specification also asks for 12 GB of RAM and a DirectX 12 graphics card, more than the older racers in this catalog need. Valve rates it Verified for Steam Deck.

Based on the documented features of the PC version, not a hands-on review or score.

How Wildlap compares

CrossWorlds leans on online play, cross-play and a large licensed cast. Wildlap is an original PC kart racer still in development, with single-player and local split-screen announced and a garage where coins earned in races pay for kart upgrades.

We make Wildlap. It is a PC kart racer in development, without a release date or public demo yet.
